Climate change
On the matter of climate change and other vital issues with
profound implications for the common good, Bahá’ís have to avoid being drawn
into the all too common tendencies evident in contemporary discourse to
delineate sharp dichotomies, become ensnared in contests for power, and engage
in intractable debate that obstructs the search for viable solutions to the
world’s problems. Humanity would be best and most effectively served by setting
aside partisan disputation, pursuing united action that is informed by the best
available scientific evidence and grounded in spiritual principles, and
thoughtfully revising action in the light of experience. The incessant focus on
generating and magnifying points of difference rather than building upon points
of agreement leads to exaggeration that fuels anger and confusion, thereby
diminishing the will and capacity to act on matters of vital concern.

The nine concentric circles surrounding the “the Báb's holy dust”
- The outermost circle in this vast system, the visible counterpart of the pivotal position conferred on the Herald of our Faith, is none other than the entire planet.
- Within the heart of this planet lies the "Most Holy Land," acclaimed by 'Abdu'l-Bahá as "the Nest of the Prophets" and which must be regarded as the center of the world and the Qiblih of the nations.
- Within this Most Holy Land rises the Mountain of God of immemorial sanctity, the Vineyard of the Lord, the Retreat of Elijah, Whose return the Bab Himself symbolizes.
- Reposing on the breast of this holy mountain are the extensive properties permanently dedicated to, and constituting the sacred precincts of, the Báb's holy Sepulcher.
- In the midst of these properties, recognized as the international endowments of the Faith, is situated the most holy court, an enclosure comprising gardens and terraces which at once embellish, and lend a peculiar charm to, these sacred precincts.
- Embosomed in these lovely and verdant surroundings stands in all its exquisite beauty the mausoleum of the Bab, the shell designed to preserve and adorn the original structure raised by 'Abdu'l-Bahá as the tomb of the Martyr-Herald of our Faith.
- Within this shell is enshrined that Pearl of Great Price, the holy of holies, those chambers which constitute the tomb itself, and which were constructed by 'Abdu'l-Bahá.
- Within the heart of this holy of holies is the tabernacle, the vault wherein reposes the most holy casket.
- Within this vault rests the alabaster sarcophagus in which is deposited that inestimable jewel, the Báb's holy dust. So precious is this dust that the very earth surrounding the edifice enshrining this dust has been extolled by the Center of Bahá'u'lláh's Covenant, in one of His Tablets in which He named the five doors belonging to the six chambers which He originally erected after five of the believers associated with the construction of the Shrine, as being endowed with such potency as to have inspired Him in bestowing these names, whilst the tomb itself housing this dust He acclaimed as the spot round which the Concourse on high circle in adoration.

1844-1944: Gradation in the character of the opposition the Baha’i Faith had to encounter
…gradation in the character of the opposition it has had to
encounter—an opposition, at first kindled in the bosom of Shí’ah Islám, which,
at a later stage, gathered momentum with the banishment of Bahá’u’lláh to the
domains of the Turkish Sultán and the consequent hostility of the more powerful
Sunní hierarchy and its Caliph, the head of the vast majority of the followers
of Muhammad—an opposition which, now, through the rise of a divinely appointed
Order in the Christian West, and its initial impact on civil and ecclesiastical
institutions, bids fair to include among its supporters established governments
and systems associated with the most ancient, the most deeply entrenched
sacerdotal hierarchies in Christendom.

Some facts about the Báb’s first disciples: The Letters of the Living
Within approximately two months following the private
Declaration of the Báb to Mulla Husayn, His first believer, sixteen men and one
woman found themselves drawn to Him and became His first followers. Each of the
eighteen recognized Him independently, gave Him allegiance, and agreed not to
reveal His identity until the appointed time. The Báb gave each of these first
disciples the title "Letter of the Living."
• They were seventeen men and one woman.
• The first to believe in the Báb was Mulla Husayn Bushrú’í.
• The second to believe in the Báb was Mulla Ali Bastamí.
• Two of them were brothers, a third a nephew of them.
• Two were cousins.
• Ten of them were Muslim clerics before becoming Bábis.
• One of them was referred to by the Báb, in allegorical
language, as the return of the Imam Ali.
• One of them was instrumental in bringing the news of the
Advent of the Báb to the attention of Tahirih who was in Karbala, Iraq at the
time – before she became a Babi.
• One of them didn’t personally meet the Báb .
• One of them became known as the First Babi martyr.
• One of them was the son of a famous Persian mujtahid (a
prominent religious scholar).
• One of them visited Baha’u’llah in Baghdad.

Baha’u’llah identifies a “noble angle”
Call thou to mind the behavior of Ashraf’s mother, whose son
laid down his life in the Land of Zá (Zanján). He, most certainly, is in the
seat of truth, in the presence of One Who is the Most Powerful, the Almighty.
When the infidels, so unjustly, decided to put him to death,
they sent and fetched his mother, that perchance she might admonish him, and
induce him to recant his faith, and follow in the footsteps of them that have
repudiated the truth of God, the Lord of all worlds.
No sooner did she behold the face of her son, than she spoke
to him such words as caused the hearts of the lovers of God, and beyond them
those of the Concourse on high, to cry out and be sore pained with grief.
Truly, thy Lord knoweth what My tongue speaketh. He Himself beareth witness to
My words.
And when addressing him she said: “My son, mine own son!
Fail not to offer up thyself in the path of thy Lord. Beware that thou betray
not thy faith in Him before Whose face have bowed down in adoration all who are
in the heavens and all who are on the earth. Go thou straight on, O my son, and
persevere in the path of the Lord, thy God. Haste thee to attain the presence
of Him Who is the Well-Beloved of all worlds.”
On her be My blessings, and My mercy, and My praise, and My
glory. I Myself shall atone for the loss of her son—a son who now dwelleth
within the tabernacle of My majesty and glory, and whose face beameth with a
light that envelopeth with its radiance the Maids of Heaven in their celestial
chambers, and beyond them the inmates of My Paradise, and the denizens of the
Cities of Holiness. Were any eye to gaze on his face, he would exclaim: “Lo,
this is no other than a noble angel!”

pilgrimages performed by its devoted adherents to its consecrated shrines at
its world center—pilgrimages originally arduous, perilous, tediously long,
often made on foot, at times ending in disappointment, and confined to a
handful of harassed Oriental followers, gradually attracting, under steadily
improving circumstances of security and comfort, an ever swelling number of new
converts converging from the four corners of the globe…

Points to keep in mind while serving on the institutions and agencies of the Faith
Service on the institutions and agencies of the Faith is
indeed a tremendous privilege, but not one that is sought by the individual; it
is a duty and responsibility to which he or she may be called at any given
time. It is understandable, of course, that all those involved in Bahá'í
administration would rightly feel they have been invested with a singular
honour in forming part, in whatever way, of a structure designed to be a
channel through which the spirit of the Cause flows. Yet they should not
imagine that such service entitles them to operate on the periphery of the
learning process that is everywhere gaining strength, exempt from its inherent
requirements. Nor should it be supposed that membership on administrative bodes
provides an opportunity to promote one’s own understanding of what is recorded
in the Sacred Text and how the teachings should be applied, steering the
community in whatever direction personal preference dictate. Referring to
members of Spiritual Assemblies, the Guardian wrote that they “must disregard
utterly their own likes and dislikes, their personal interests and
inclinations, and concentrate their minds upon those measures that will conduce
to the welfare and happiness of the Bahá'í Community and promote the common
weal.” Bahá’í institutions do exercise authority to guide the friends, and
exert moral, spiritual and intellectual influence on the lives of individuals
and communities. However, such functions are to be performed with the
realization that an ethos of loving service pervades Bahá’í institutional
identify. Qualifying authority and influence in this manner implies sacrifice
on the part of those entrusted to administer the affairs of the Faith. Does not
‘Abdu'l-Bahá tell us that “when a lump of iron is cast into the forge, its
ferrous qualities of blackness, coldness and solidity, which symbolize the
attributes of the human world, are concealed and disappear, while the fire's
distinctive qualities of redness, heat and fluidity, which symbolize the
virtues of the Kingdom, become visibly apparent in it.” As He averred, “ye must
in this matter—that is, the serving of humankind—lay down your very lives, and
as ye yield yourselves, rejoice.”

Attributes of God versus those of Satan
…God has wished all good for His servants, and he who wishes
the servants of God evil is against God; he has not obeyed the will and
emulated the example of God; he has followed Satanic leadings and footprints.
The attributes of God are love and mercy; the attribute of Satan is hate.
Therefore, he who is merciful and kind to his fellowmen is manifesting the
divine attribute, and he who is hating and hostile toward a fellow creature is
satanic. God is absolute love, even as Jesus Christ has declared, and Satan is
utter hatred. Wherever love is witnessed, know that there is a manifestation of
God’s mercy; whenever you meet hatred and enmity, know that these are the
evidences and attributes of Satan.

Fate and predestination – Baha’u’llah explains
Know thou, O fruit of My Tree, that the decrees of the
Sovereign Ordainer, as related to fate and predestination, are of two kinds.
Both are to be obeyed and accepted. The one is irrevocable, the other is, as
termed by men, impending. To the former all must unreservedly submit, inasmuch
as it is fixed and settled. God, however, is able to alter or repeal it. As the
harm that must result from such a change will be greater than if the decree had
remained unaltered, all, therefore, should willingly acquiesce in what God hath
willed and confidently abide by the same.
The decree that is impending, however, is such that prayer
and entreaty can succeed in averting it.
God grant that thou who art the fruit of My Tree, and they
that are associated with thee, may be shielded from its evil consequences.
